Mbombela, formerly Nelspruit, is the capital of Mpumalanga. It lies on the Crocodile River, about 110 kilometres from the Mozambique border and 330 kilometres from Johannesburg, and was founded in 1895 by the Nel brothers.
The city is a stopover for visitors to the Kruger National Park. They arrive by road or air and search for car hire, groceries, fuel and a bed, often on the same evening.
Shoppers from Mozambique and Eswatini also come to Mbombela, and they rely on Google to find Mbombela shops before crossing. Correct listings spare them a wasted border crossing.
Mbombela Stadium, with about 40,000 seats, hosted 2010 World Cup matches and still holds big events. The University of Mpumalanga, founded in 2014, brings students to the city.
The Lowveld National Botanical Garden lies on the Crocodile River, and garden walkers then need a café; fresh pictures win them.
The city lies about 82 kilometres north of the Eswatini border. The Riverside and Ilanga malls are the main shopping centres.
The University of Mpumalanga started in 2014 with 140 students and had over 4,300 by 2020. Tshwane University of Technology has a satellite campus with over 1,500 students, and Citrus Research International has a major facility here.
The Manganese Metal Company and Delta EMD make manganese products here, and medium industries support farming and forestry. The climate is humid subtropical, with hot, wet summers.
The Agricultural Research Council's Institute for Tropical and Subtropical Crops is here, and Ehlanzeni TVET College serves the region. The city is a major stopover for Kruger and Mozambique travellers.
Mpumalanga produces about 21 percent of South Africa's citrus and a third of its exports, with Valencias the leading variety and Mbombela the centre of that sector. The International Fresh Produce Market lies under 10 kilometres from the CBD on the Maputo Development Corridor, which links growers to the Port of Maputo.
Macadamias matter too. A grower owned factory on the western outskirts began cracking nuts in September 2020 and processes harvests from more than 100 farmers, according to Engineering News. Avocados, bananas, litchis and mangoes also come from Lowveld orchards, so packhouse staff, transporters and farm suppliers search for workshops, diesel and spares.
South African Business adds that Hazyview supplies about 20 percent of the country's bananas, that more than 65,000 hectares nationally grow macadamias, and that the industry produced 83,556 tons in 2023.

Yes. Lowveld customers cross between towns, so White River, Hazyview and Kabokweni sit on one listing.
Yes, and the rooms too. Lowveld guests want both.

No one can honestly guarantee a Google ranking. Google says local results mainly depend on relevance, distance and prominence. We work on the parts you control: an accurate, active profile and steady, specific replies to your reviews.
WhatsApp us your listing link and tell us what is wrong. We look at the profile as it stands and tell you what we would fix first.
