Stellenbosch lies about 50 kilometres east of Cape Town on the banks of the Eerste River, at the foot of the Stellenbosch Mountain. Simon van der Stel founded it in 1679, which makes it the second oldest town in South Africa, and the oaks he planted gave it the name Eikestad, the City of Oaks.
Visitors come for the Cape Dutch buildings, the wine farms that surround the town, and the cafés, boutiques and galleries in the centre. Most of them choose where to stop from the map on their phone, so a tasting room or restaurant with current hours, real photos and recent replies gets the visit.
The town is home to Stellenbosch University. Student trade shapes the year: flat rentals, takeaways, bars and printing shops fill up in term and slow right down when students leave.
On the southern side of town, Technopark Stellenbosch is a science park that houses large companies and startups, including the head office of Capitec Bank. Office workers there look for lunch, gyms and services close by, and they read reviews before they book.
The local municipality also takes in Pniel and Franschhoek, so a business can draw customers from across the valley. A clear service area helps a caterer, plumber or guesthouse show up in the right towns rather than only in Stellenbosch itself.
Stellenbosch sits in a valley at an average height of 136 metres, with Papegaaiberg, Parrot Mountain, to the west and the Jonkershoek, Drakenstein and Simonsberg ranges to the east. Jonkershoek Nature Reserve is about 9 kilometres away, and hikers coming back from its trails want food and a cold drink close to town.
Beyond Capitec, the town is home to the headquarters of Mediclinic International, Herotel and Remgro. Head offices bring visiting staff, suppliers and contractors who look for meeting rooms, lunch and accommodation near their meetings.
Sport matters too. Cyclists, athletes and triathletes use Stellenbosch as a warm weather training base, the Stellenbosch Sports Academy opened in 2012 and hosts the Springbok Sevens and Western Province, and Stellenbosch FC play in the Premiership. Physios, bike shops and sports nutrition stores all compete for those searches.
Examples of real kinds of searches, and what a strong profile shows for them. These are examples, not ranking claims.
“wine tasting Stellenbosch”
Tourists weigh up Jonkershoek Valley estates against Simonsberg farms. Tasting days, booking rules and cellar photos sway them.
“student flat Stellenbosch”
Parents of Maties first years study comments about safety and walking distance to campus before they sign.
“coffee Dorp Street”
Someone strolling past the Cape Dutch façades wants an espresso within a block and a door that is open.
“bike shop Stellenbosch”
Triathletes on a winter training camp need a mechanic quickly, so stock notes and Saturday times count.
Matie term dates, harvest weeks and Springbok Sevens fixtures at the Sports Academy push Eikestad trade up and down through the year, and long weekends draw day trippers from the Mother City.
Check the dates with our holiday hours tool.
Yes. Both sit inside Stellenbosch municipality, so a Franschhoek bistro or a Pniel guesthouse gets the same care as a shop on Dorp Street.
Yes. Google allows extra hour sets for things like tastings or a cellar restaurant, and we keep those matched to your estate calendar.

No one can honestly guarantee a Google ranking. Google says local results mainly depend on relevance, distance and prominence. We work on the parts you control: an accurate, active profile and steady, specific replies to your reviews.
WhatsApp us your listing link and tell us what is wrong. We look at the profile as it stands and tell you what we would fix first.
