What we look after
Ahead of each public holiday we ask whether you are open, closed or on different hours, and set it on your profile before the day. We do the same for your December and January closure, stocktake days, private functions and any one-off change you tell us about on WhatsApp.
Your normal weekly hours stay as they are, so Google shows the right times on the day and goes back to normal afterwards.
Why it matters
On a public holiday, people check Google before they leave home. If your profile shows normal hours while you are closed, they arrive at a locked door. If it shows closed while you are trading, they go somewhere else. Both cost you the customer and sometimes a review.
When Google changes your hours
Google can update a profile from suggested edits and its own sources. Because we watch your profile every month, an unexpected change to your hours is spotted and put right, and help with suggested edits is included in our packages.

Why does Google keep changing my business hours?
Google can change details on a profile from suggested edits by the public and from its own sources. Owners are usually notified, but the change can go live first. We watch your profile and put unwanted changes right.
How long does Google take to update business hours?
Most changes to hours show soon after they are saved, but some go to Google for review first and take longer. That is why we set holiday hours well before the day rather than the night before.
What is the difference between temporarily closed and permanently closed?
Temporarily closed tells customers you will reopen, and permanently closed tells them you won’t. For a public holiday or a short break, neither is right: special hours show the closure for those days only.
